I assure you to extend our best services to you all so far activities of this newly born Corporation is concerned. In order to provide modern and improvised civic facilities to the citizens of satellite township, Salt Lake, a civic body under nomenclature “Bidhannagar Municipality” was set up in the year 1995 and consequent upon substantial increase of work pressure followed by implementation of various projects and schemes of Govt. of West Bengal as well as of Govt. of India it was decided to setup a fulledged Municipal Corporation by amalgating Rajarhat Gopalpur Municipality and Mahisbathan Gram Panchayat and entire satellite of Bidhannagar. The newly constituted Bidhannagar Corporation was formally setup on 18th June 2015 and presently Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation comprises of 41 Wards and 6 Boroughs.
Bidhannagar or Salt Lake City popularly called a planned satellite township in Indian State of West Bengal. It was developed between 1958 and 1965 to accommodate the burgeoning population of Calcutta. Within few decades this satellite township has been elevated to a hub of economic and social expansion and it famous as the centre of IT in the city like Silicon Valley of India. As we all know that this city was built on the reclaimed Salt Water Lake which gave rise to its popular name of Salt Lake under two constituencies Rajarhat Gopalpur and Rajarhat New Town in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
Record speaks it took nearly 7 years to fill the 12.35 sq.km. on land with drazed silt which was once very fertile fishing zone. On April 1962, Salt Lake was officially came into light.
Apart from day-to-day activities, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation has given top most priority for revamping and rejuvenating and beautifying its Roads, Water Supply, Health Services and Sewerage System to a International Standard. Besides this, special emphasis has been given to implement of the projects of Govt. to provide homes to the homeless under specific project exclusively for the underprivileged. Beside this, special emphasis has been given to implement the Projects of Govt. with proper financing implemented by this Corporation to provide homes to the homeless under specific projects exclusively for the underprivileged. In addition to this health care system falls within the priority list of activities and for which existing hospitals have been reoriented followed by appointment of professional physicians, nurses and other health staff. In order to save the citizens from the clutch of dengue, malaria and other vector borne diseases different activities round the years 24x7 is initiated in the interest of public service.
Most important and interesting feature of the newly borne Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation is to construct Rabindra Kanan within its jurisdiction and for which a detailed action taken programme has been prepared and submitted to Govt. of West Bengal for concurrence. In the meantime, foundation stone ceremony has been completed in anticipation of the approval followed by due funds from the Govt. end. The total cost of the Rabindra Kanan is estimated to be 37 crores out of which a substantial amount from the own fund to be added. This has been done with the fundamental object to pay homage to legendary poet Rabindranath Tagore and to arrange space for undertaking research oriented work for future generation.
Since, beautification activities is of prime importance in this newly constituted Corporation, special drive has been given for beautification of parks and playgrounds and out of which 5 parks to be beautified under AMRUT Project during the year 2016-17 sanction of 4 parks has already been received and beautification work of this flagship project viz. Green City Project is under process which has been estimated to be involved Rs. 25 crores. This is a landmark achievement as on date undertaken by the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
